Ryan Emerson, LMHC
Ryan enjoys working with teens, adults, and couples. He has over 15 years of experience providing professional counseling. He enjoys helping people with trauma, mood issues, relationship problems, or those who feel stuck in life.
Ryan uses a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to the client’s needs, commonly including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical behavior therapy), Family and Couples Therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Ryan is certified as an EMDR therapist.
What clients appreciate most about Ryan is not only his professional skill but also his ability to meet people where they are. He believes that therapy should be a collaborative journey; one where clients feel heard, understood, encouraged, and challenged toward growth. Ryan brings both expertise and compassion to each session, offering practical tools for change while honoring each individual’s unique story.
Ryan can also provide therapy with a Christian perspective if desired. He enjoys walking along with people in their faith journey, and is understanding of church dynamics, religious trauma, and overcoming spiritual battles. He received his Master’s Degree from Colorado Christian University.
Ryan’s office at Pathways is designed to feel calm, inviting, and comfortable. The space offers a sense of peace that makes it easier to open up and reflect. It’s a place set apart from the busyness of daily life, where you can slow down, breathe, and focus on what matters most.
In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing board games, acting with his friends at the Brooklyn Opera House, and occasionally playing the violin and viola. He’s a married father of two and enjoys being a husband and father and living and helping others in Iowa.
